Stay Fit by Using the Proper Gym
Equipment

There are numerous ways to work your body and get to the shape which will make others turn their
heads when you are walking in the streets. Even when you are at home, you can do several exercises you have heard
of from your colleagues at work or from your friends. When you go to a gym instead, you will most probably feel a
bit intimidated by the gym equipment you will find there, not even knowing what most of the machines actually
do.
When it comes to exercising and staying fit, there are basically two ways you can work. One of
them would be working with free weights, while the other one is based on different machines to help you shape
different muscle groups of your body and which make up a more complex system of muscle builders, more kinds of
exercises being possible and more muscle groups being worked out on such gym equipment.
As for the free weights, these are very simple mechanisms and they are very easy to use. Not
having any cables, weight stacks or pins attached to the, they practically consist of weight plate, barbells and
dumbbells. Your gym equipment can consist of Olympic barbells, fixed weight barbells or standard size barbells and
dumbbells. As for dumbbells, these are actually shorter barbells of about ten up to fifteen inches long. You can
find hex style dumbbells or pro style ones and adjustable or not adjustable ones and they are usually disposed on
dumbbell racks. When it comes to weight plates, these can weigh between two pounds and a half and fifty pounds and
can be made of iron or plastic. For instance, commercial gyms only use iron weight plates, Olympic for Olympic
barbells and standard weight plates for standard size barbells.
Benches are another kind of gym equipment, very popular among exercise amateurs, regardless if they choose to work
out at a gym or at home. Multiple types of gym benches are appropriate for different kinds of exercises or can combine more
exercises for better results. With gym equipment benches, you can store the weight under the bench, gym step
benches, for instance, helping with your cardiologic functions and working on the tonus of your muscles. Then,
there would be the sit up benches and the abdominal ones, proper for working out your
abdominal muscles without hurting your back or the gym incline benches, providing different levels of efficiency
for the exercises you do. Last but not least, if you want to work on the upper part of your body, you have gym
flat benches.
Finally, gym machines are safe and easier to use than free weights and they you exercise either
individual muscle groups on your entire body, depending on the machine. Multi-station machines are cheaper and
occupy less space, being frequently encountered in gyms. From leg press machines to pec deck machines, these are
highly efficient but tend to stimulate fewer muscles than the free weights.
All in all, everyone can choose their own gym equipment taking into consideration the type of
exercises they want to do and the parts of the body they want to work out. However, the best solution is to arrange
your own gym so that it includes both machines and free weights, making your exercises even more efficient and
varied.
